'Brooklyn Baby' by Lana Del Rey

Our 'West Coast' darling really wasn't kidding when she said "It's coming, you little bitch." Lana's Ultraviolence is set to be released in a couple weeks, but she's been a releasing a new song each week in preparation, giving us a frank look into her troubled mind. The newest cut hit the net a day early, and I'm too ravenous to wait.

Following the dark and submissive 'Ultraviolence', 'Brooklyn Baby' provides a more uplifting and happy Lana than we've heard so far. That being said, 'Brooklyn Baby' is not free of Lana's difficulty with men. The song is something she has written about many times before: that bad boy that makes her feel loved even when everyone tells them they should not be together.

Dropping it like it's hot (as she apparently loves to do given how many times she's sung the lyric), Lana weaves poetic beauty into this song giving it a more optimistic sound than the previous Ultraviolence cuts. It still retains that atmospheric rock sound with a muffled Lana's whispering over the beat, but it's not as bleak as you'd expect.

It seems as though Lana's a medical marvel just like the Queen Bey because she sings, "I know you're sick, boy, / I wanna get the flu, I'm running temperatures, Thinking of your love, boo." She'll do what she needs to do to get what she wants. Kiss her stilettos because Lana doesn't give a fuck what you think about her love life. I think we can all learn a lesson from Lana here.

Ultraviolence will be released on June 17th.
